The Peloponnese
The Peloponnese have some of the finest beaches and swimming areas in Greece. The villages still are basically traditional and quiet. This area also has a wealth of ancient archaeological sites and served as the inspiration for several Greek myths.
Epidaurus, the theater that holds over 10,000 is within 45-minutes; Tiryns, the Bronze Age birthplace of Herakles is a mere 4 km from town; Mycenae, antoher Bronze Age site, reputed to be the home of Agamemnon and his murderous wife Clytemnestra, is a half-hour away.
Galatas, a beautiful village opposite Poros island is well worth the lovely drive across the penninsula through olive groves, mountains, along the sea, and past farms.
The Peloponnese encompasses a large area, and I barely have touched it with the few places I have visited.
